Happy Juneteenth! We recognize the history of agriculture in this country and the legacy of slavery. IOF is proud to stand in solidarity with the freedom struggle of the Black community. It's mid June in North Carolina and farm work should be in full swing, but due to heavy rains and cool temperatures, work has been light in the last month. Nevertheless, the tobacco has been planted and is growing. It's "toxic and dangerous, but beautiful", as one worker commented. In this newsletter, you'll learn about IOF workers benefitting from and giving back to local food pantries, how IOF is helping resolve cases of lost wages due to the pandemic, a meeting between IOF workers and the Mexican Consulate, and you'll meet IOF's Vice President, Eli Poras. Save the Date for an IOF statewide gathering: Sunday, August 6! We'll need lots of help. Read on for more. |
